Fandom Not!Secrets

I just watched Coffin Princess Chaika, and I have this to say:

Chaika? Yes, Chaika. Chaika!

Seriously, I'd like to do a secret about it, but there really isn't anything secret. I just like it and think it's a good show. It's a familiar plot in the broad strokes, but on a smaller scale it often surprised me with the turns it took, and Chaika herself is completely adorable.

What do you have no secrets about?

Kamigami no Asobi was shockingly enjoyable for being otome trash. It's pretty as hell, and I really ended up loving the characters.

I think tumblr needs to calm down with its "Omg Beck won a Grammy over Beyonce, it's racism! The white man has done it again!" Like ffs, this is his first one and she already has twenty one grammys under her belt.

Dude, I am sick of people supporting Kanye for throwing another hissy fit. If nothing else, I pity Beyonce for having to deal with that crazy fucker trying to "defend" her from the big bad other people winning awards.

Seriously. She's fucking Beyonce, she's a millionaire and is married to a man worth half a billion, and has a healthy baby girl. She doesn't need Kanye defending her like a guard dog. (It's also really creepy that he keeps doing this, almost stalkerish at this point)

If you go by that logic, racism is over because Steve McQueen won an Oscar last year.

Dude, out of alllllllllll the awards shows that may be racist, the Grammys is not one of them. They have super diverse nominees and winners.

I never said 'racism was over'. I said it wasn't racist that Beck won one Grammy. Beyonce has won a ton of them already. They aren't 'holding her artistic talent down' because one year she lost to Beck.

Oh, sorry, no, I was agreeing with you.

If people winning meaningless awards is an indicator of whether racism exists, you end up in some weird-ass places.

Two months ago: The new Annie movie gets bad reviews.

Tumblr: "If this movie had been about a white girl, critics would love it!"

Two months later: Jupiter Ascending, a movie about a white girl, gets even worse reviews.

Tumblr: "If this movie had been about a white guy, critics would love it!"

Not a secret because there's nothing more to say here, just shaking my head once again at the social justice side of tumblr's hypocrisy and treatment of "if" statements as universal truths.

Annie was god awful. Where was tumblr when Book of Life came out?

Re: Fandom Not!Secrets

(Anonymous) 2015-02-11 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, tumblr adored Book of Life (so did I, to be fair). It also tried to blame other tumblrites for the movie being a financial flop, because if everyone who claimed to care about social justice on tumblr had bought a ticket, it would be at the top of the box office, surely.

I feel terrible about Book of Life, because I ended up having to leave early. It was actually so bright and colorful that it triggered a massive migraine. :( At least I still purchased the ticket, I guess...

Are people saying that people would like JA if it was about a man? Most of the people on my dash seem to be saying "It is complete ridiculous schlock but in a fun B-movie way."

"If this movie had been about a white guy, critics would love it!"

I don't know about that, because (without seeing it, admittedly) I think the closest parallel sounds like the male-led Winter's Tale; both tap into that "cracked out middle school OC daydream brought to the big screen" sensation. And I think JA is going to wind up doing way better than WT, despite having the female lead.

Not secret related, but yay Chaika. The end was a bit rushed but it was a nice little fantasy and Chaika was adorable (white Chaika was best Chaika but red was pretty cute too. I loved her Red Riding Chaika outfit at the end). I'm kinda sad that we don't seem to be getting any figures of her, I want one. If you haven't seen Scrapped Princess I recommend checking it out, it's based on a light novel series written by the same person who wrote the Chaika light novels.
