My thoughts are that the AV Club has really declined a lot and this is almost certainly just a clickbaity contrarian thinkpiece that ought not be taken seriously.

That's before I read the piece, of course.

I actually haven't read AV Club stuff all that much in recent months, and I only found this after clicking on a piece discussing John Stewart's departure. The author's points about crappy books being adapted into halfway tolerable movies due to a focus on dialogue was worthwhile (at least for me), which is why I kept reading. That ending, though....
