Romance Question!

(Anonymous) 2015-02-13 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Birth control anon from above. I (very wrongly, and stupidly) assumed I could end my period early by taking my next pack of bc early. I am also completely crud at dating and romance, and I need advice. The guy I'm seeing invited me to his place on Valentine's Day, I agreed, and the unspoken presumption (I'm assuming) is that we're going to have sex for the first time. But I'm guessing I'm still going to be on my period then. How do I smooth this awkward situation over, and not ruin Valentine's Day?

Re: Romance Question!

That really depends on whether you and him are okay with having sex during periods.

I would be fine, but I don't know about him. :/

That's what I assumed about him, but had no idea if you meant you didn't like it or not. Well, what I do in that situation is to say (once we're in the mood, not like over dinner xD) 'hey, I'm on my period. Is that an issue?' Most guys in my experience don't care so it's all good. If he's one of those who don't like it, then you can suggest doing other things (that depends on whether you wear a pad or a tampon) or just get a raincheck (which sucks, but it shouldn't ruin your day).

Thank you. It sounds doable when you put it like that.

No problem, good luck :)

And in my anecdotal experience, this was a lot more awkward in my head than it ended up being the first time it happened.

I'm a total virgin, so take this with however many grains of salt it deserves, but does it need to be PIV, or can it just be fooling around? A bit of touch and nibble, and maybe suck depending on how you feel about that . . . Valentine's Day may be a tradition, but sex is just something people do to have fun together, so go with whatever will make you both happy.

Thanks for the advice!

I sort of can't believe that people who don't know how their contraception choice works feel ready to have sex O_O

I'm not really a stranger to sex, haha. Please don't judge. I blame it on my conservative upbringing, and the zero sex education I received. :/ You'd be surprised at the shit that doesn't get explained to you.

nayrt - You have access to the internet now, anon? Google the hell out of everything, because seriously, this is NOT an area where it's a good idea to explore while ignorant.

Haha, thanks. Despite the fact that I sadly don't know the exact mechanics of bc, I'm not super ignorant either at least, and have utilized the internet. (Lol, I'm now imagining all of you thinking I go around having all this unprotected sex and not knowing anything.)

Wow, judgmental much? Perhaps she used condoms before and it's the first time she's been on the pill?

op
Funnily enough, that actually is kind of the case; I am pretty new to the pill. (And honestly, I don't really have sex all that much.) But yes, I could stand to be better informed too.

Have him wear a condom, so his prick doesn't get covered in blood?

Re: Romance Question!

(Anonymous) 2015-02-13 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
That's something I can consider asking, if that would make him ok with it. I was planning on a condom anyways. Thanks.

Communication. It's awkward as fuck but you gotta just tell him what's up.

Yep, I guess that's what I'm going to have to do. Thanks!

puns. you need to COMBINE the message of "hi i have my period" with something romantical valentine-ly for the greater good.
