Ratchet is my weird word thing. Why are you talking about a hand tool? Why does it mean disgusting? One of my highschoolers tried explaining it to me, saying it has something to do with, and I honestly quote, "black culture. Like, the black girls with big butts and work it, y'know..."

But it's supposed to mean gross, like when "a hot mess" was bad thing.

I'm pretty sure it's derived from a mispronunciation of "wretched". Not from the tool.

My mind would come to a stop if someone tried to use that as slang with me. Ratchet??? = Black??? = disgusting?!?!?!!?!
