I wouldn't even touch it. I already read it and when you change the names and tweak stuff so that the characters I want to read about aren't themselves anymore, I don't care about your story anymore.

I am surprisingly not bothered by this. I mean, I guess it's case by case, but if it's an AU, and chances are the characters are a bit OOC anyway (because most people will always write a bit OOC) and the plot in the fic doesn't really have anything to do with the original plot anyway... you're practically reading an original fic just with existing names already.

Oh, I guess I just put too much faith on this hypothetical favorite fic of mine then, since I stay away from "original story with canon characters" type fics (and get annoyed if the fic I'm reading veers into that after a few chapters). I mean, if I liked this hypothetical kink fic, it would be canon-compliant.
