I liked the first couple seasons too, until the show started feeling the need to address every single hot button issue ever. Gay bashing is in the news? Here's an episode where Kurt gets gay bashed! School shootings suddenly on everyone's radar? School shooting episode! Trans issues getting a jump in visibility? An established character is now trans! Add to that the whole mess that was the Glee Project, forcing the show to shoehorn in constant new characters no one gave a crap about and who half the time were terrible actors (seriously, was the Irish kid any good on the reality show cause he sucked on the actual show, how did he win) and it just messed up the show's entire flow. After a while it started to feel like the show was stuffing 3-4 seasons worth of storylines into like four episodes. Then half the characters people cared about graduated and the show went all Saved by the Bell: The New Class on us and it was pretty much done at that point.
