Not sure why people are being deliberately obtuse about your meaning here, OP. You even referenced the trope in your secret. FWIW, it's a trope I dislike as well.

(I was already ennnnnh on the Divergent series to begin with, but then when they killed a character and went "surprise! she was totes gay the whole time! lol diversity"? That was when I finally said "fuck this shit" and gave up.)

Oh, God, the "gay after the fact" thing. I'm not fond of that, either.

Ugh, I hate when they pull a Dumbledore and people think that's the same as actually depicting gay characters.

Wait, was it mentioned she was gay AFTER the books were published? When I said "gay after the fact", I was actually thinking of cases where the character is stated to be gay in actual canon, but only after they die. Yeah, the Dumbledore thing is even worse than that (imo).

Oh no, you're right, I think it was in the book. lol I'm still so irritated by the Dumbledore thing that I'm bringing it into arguments where it doesn't belong. Oops.

Ah, ok. Yeah, at least with the "gay after the fact" thing as I define it, they acknowledge the queerness if a character in canon.

It's implied in the book, but definitely not stated outright.

Although I hate it more because so much of the books are the power of LOVE, and the one gay character only went Evil because he was in LOVE.

I thought the Dumbledore thing was...not bad. But I also wouldn't count it as actual representation.
