If you need so bad media to validate your condition, yeah, you should probably visit a special.

Media influences culture though

The treatment of periods as "lol crazy women being melodramatic amirite?" means that a lot of women who suffer from legitimately debilitating PMS issues are dismissed by men and women whose symptoms aren't as difficult. Look at some of the commenters above you. I thought a lot of women were exaggerating too until my own PMS issues worsened in college.

It would be nice if there were more depictions of physical and emotional periods symptoms in media as something besides hilarious women's hysteria time because the ignorance that some of us have about period symptoms leads to problems like women getting denied birth control (because surely PMS can't be that bad right?).

I feel like periods are so rarely mentioned in media to begin with (barring the occasional: "you're so cranky is it your time of the month?" question to a female character). Any mention of debilitating periods doesn't seem likely anytime soon, though it would be interesting to see it brought up, like you said.

I had a roommate whose cramps got so bad she could barely stand up. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

(not OP) It took me 15 years to get a diagnosis of endometriosis. Doctors are extremely dismissive of women's pain. Strangely enough, my suicidal ideation greatly decreased and eventually went away when I got appropriate treatment and pain relief.
