I couldn't think of any currently airing shows that I watch that have done this.

What if they come back? (Serious question, I watch sci-fi and soaps, so the possibility is there for some shows - I thought they had done this trope on Warehouse 13, but he actually came back.)

And does it count when it's the random victim of the week, like on a procedural?

Oh, God, I forgot about Defiance... ~_~

Arrow recently killed off a queer character (Sara Lance, who was bisexual); in fact, the characters are still dealing with the fallout. she was the love of Nyssa Al Ghul, daughter of Ra's Al Ghul. If you don't know about the DC universe, Ra's is not a dude you wanna piss off.

I will never stop being furious about them killing Sara. Not only did they kill her - the reason behind her death has turned into one of the stupidest most convoluted plots I've ever seen on a TV show. And I thought it was stupid last season when they fridged Shado to drive Slade's insane revenge arc against Oliver.

Yeah, that plot is boring me to DEATH. I should catch up on the show, but I find it harder to give a shit. Especially with them grooming Laurel to be the new Black Canary, when she's got half the personality or charisma of her late sister. She's boring as hell and I can't believe they're keeping her around.

I don't think I've had a show go bad on me this fast since Heroes. From "yay new favorite show!" to "WTF am I watching?" in one season. *sigh*

Yeah... I mean, maybe it's cuz I liked Slade, but I liked last season so much better. And for all my complaining about Slade's motives, at least they made a HELL of a lot more sense than the completely pants-on-head crazy of this season.

Oh, I know! And WTF made Merlyn think Oliver would be able to kill off Al Ghul is he himself can't?

Ah, the Shado/Slade thing. Him liking her came right the fuck outta nowhere, then turned into his PRIME MOTIVE FOR EVERYTHING. I actually really, really, REALLLLLLY liked Slade, but his motives... Ugh. He even KNEW it was that doctor guy who actually killed her (hell, he cut off his hand for it), but he still blamed Oliver. Just.. argh.

Yes! And now Oliver is like "well I know you CAUSED EVERYTHING but I still for some bizarre reason think you're my best hope of helping me get out of the mess that YOU CAUSED IN THE FIRST PLACE!"

I just....what.

What was the reason for killing Sara off?

I've been meaning to catch up since about mid-season 2 but I got really bored with the show and couldn't be bothered, plus the stupid Shado being the reason for everything Slade is doing. That was so dumb.

Ok, from an out-of-universe viewpoint, I suppose the reason was to accelerate Laurel's ascent to Black Canary. Within universe, however, it's much more convoluted.

At the end of season two, Thea left town with Malcolm, who turned out to be her birth father, because she was mad at everyone lying to her. (Guess lying is worse than mass-murdering 500+ people.) So he starts training her to be a mini-ninja. Meanwhile Sara goes back to the LOA at the end of the season as payment for their help in stopping Slade. Ra's Al Ghul has it out for Malcolm, basically because Ra's let him go from the LOA and he went and murdered a bunch of people. So Ra's wants Malcolm dead. Malcolm wants Ra's not to kill him. So he decides to drug Thea and program her to kill Sara, so that Oliver will take Thea's place and fight Ra's to pay the debt for Sara's life. The supposed idea is that Oliver will kill Ra's and Malcolm will be off the hook. But of course Ra's kicks Oliver's ass and almost kills him, so Oliver comes back to Malcolm and says, please! Train me to be able to defeat Ra's! Whereupon we all say...what the what?

I don't... I'm guessing that Oliver knows that he orchestrated Sara's death? Because never mind that Malcolm's plan is stupid to begin with, because it's fucking Ra's Ah Ghul, the idea that Oliver would want any help from the man that killed his friend/girlfriend is ridiculous.(I mean the whole Thea mini-ninja thing made me want to smack my head into the desk anyway. Also how could Thea kill Sara? Who's been a LOA member for years at this point).

Yeah Oliver knows that Malcolm was behind the whole thing, because Malcolm showed Oliver a video of Thea killing Sara, and told him how he made her do it. And he told Oliver that Ra's wouldn't care that Thea was drugged and doesn't remember any of it and that Malcolm was behind the whole thing - that Ra's would still want Thea dead regardless. And we are believing Malcolm on this point because....reasons I guess. So Oliver dutifully troops away to go fight Ra's to protect his little sis, but he gets skewered instead and falls off a cliff. So after being miraculously saved by the future Katana, she tells him that "only the student can defeat the master". Oliver in his great wisdom deduces that this means that he must get Malcolm to teach him to defeat Ra's, and so....here we are.

Now mind you, Ra's still, as far as we know, does not actually know that Thea was the one to have killed Sara. Although he does seem to have a very good idea that Oliver is lying through his teeth when he claims to have killed Sara himself.

As to how Thea managed to kill Sara - basically she caught her off guard. While it's still a stretch (as you say, Sara was LOA-trained), Sara let her guard down when she saw Thea, someone she presumed to be a friend, and Thea put three arrows into her.

That is so ludicrously complicated, I don't know whether I want to laugh at it or face palm.

Ahhh, okay her thinking Thea is friendly and Thea shooting her makes some sense. (Tho now I'm trying to remember other shot by arrows deaths in Arrow to see if this like LoTR has the three arrows are always fatal thing, because that would be amusing to me).

I was just starting to enjoy myself and then Sara died. NO THANKS.

Oh shit I forgot about Tara and Pam in True Blood. They finally kissed/got together in a finale, and then Tara was immediately killed off in the premiere and they barely showed Pam's reaction. Utter bullshit.

I watched a few episodes here and there and it seems like any character who finally confesses they love someone dies withing that episode or the next, so you're basically pissed at the lesbian (bi?) character being treated exactly the same are everyone else. Good job :D

I'm still pissy over the teen wolf lesbians.

Sooooo pissy.

However Under the Dome I saw coming from the moment they were introduced so I was more irritably resigned than anything. Did add to the marks against it and I dropped it a few episodes later because too many marks.

Um, just one of them died (Emily). Caitlin was questioned at the hospital and showed up in a later episode (Illuminated) where she was established as bisexual and made out with Stiles.

Yup, still pissy.
