This is something many people don't realize. Some people are just bigots because they're bigots. And I think while some are homophobic and sexist because that's the belief system they're ingrained in, others use it as a bit of a cover.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-20 12:45 am (UTC)(link)If someone was raised believing in a religion that encouraged some kind of bigotry and then rejected the religion, that wouldn't necessarily mean they'd rejected the bigotry, or maybe even realized they were being bigoted in the first place. Bigotry isn't intrinsic to religious belief, and a lack of religion doesn't indicate a lack of prejudice.
