I just started watching this last night. I was pleasantly surprised by Clarke's competence.

But also annoyed with the characterization of Ocktavia. Someone please tell me that she gets better.

Octavia kind of just disappears in season 2. But, she does get better, imo. (I hated her at first too, and only liked her when she was interacting with Bellamy.)

Episode 6 will explain why Octavia is how she is. And, yes, she has grown up quite a bit over the series.
