I'm neither queer nor Muslim, but I was raised by a rather devout family of another faith, and I used to be that anti-gay "religious kid," you know?

I can appreciate what Willow Wilson is doing; by making the teacher at her Islamic center a mostly respectable, decent person from a very conservative background, who's trying to do the right thing. I don't think it's an ideal, but it's a relatively benign version of a pretty common reality.

And it's totally okay for you not to like it. You're not quite the target audience.
