Considering the amount of Muslims who are terrorists literally make up like 1% of the entire Muslim population, I think "not all Muslims" is actually pretty on the mark.
.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-20 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
we weren't talking about them being terrorists

(Anonymous) 2015-02-20 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Not all Muslims" is usually a response to whenever people label the entire Muslim poulation as terrorists though...that's why I brought it up.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-20 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
da

What exactly are you suggesting that all Muslims are?

(Anonymous) 2015-02-20 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
where did I make that sort of blanket statement?

(Anonymous) 2015-02-20 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
By responding to ayrt's statement that not all Muslims are terrorists? If you aren't making blanket generalizations, why are you arguing in the first place?

(Anonymous) 2015-02-20 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry, where does this post mention anything about Muslims being terrorists?

http://fandomsecrets.dreamwidth.org/1166725.html?thread=814230149#cmt814230149

The secret maker was talking about facing "slutshaming, sex-shaming, insults and negativity" from her Muslim family and the Muslim community. The OP responded by saying #notallmuslims and accusing them of islamophobia.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-20 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe because OP can't stomach a positive Muslim character? If OP can't separate her own experiences from her perceptions of other Muslims, and is even critical of fictional portrayals that aren't negative, she is being Islamophobic. Being an ex-Muslim doesn't give you Islamophobia immunity.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-20 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
so you admit you jumped the gun when you started talking about terrorists?

(Anonymous) 2015-02-20 10:26 am (UTC)(link)
That was a different anon. I'm the thread op.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-20 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I think we can agree that by definition, all Muslims are religious to some extent, right?

(Anonymous) 2015-02-20 11:28 am (UTC)(link)
All people who identify with a religion are religious to some extent. Not really helpful but probably the best we've got.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-20 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
maybe so but when you look at the percentages of Muslims in Muslim countries who support death penalty for apostasy for example... It's not terrorism there because it's the accepted ideology that people follow.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-20 11:34 am (UTC)(link)
That's to a large extent a cultural difference. Wrong and barbaric, I agree, but a cultural difference that comes from being in a conservative, religiously affiliated country. You'll find those numbers different in more liberal countries, or Western countries. Especially if you're talking to people born and raised in said Western country as opposed to an immigrant from a conservative country.

But we're not talking about that, we are talking about a young American woman who is a Muslim and a superhero.
