I haven't read any fic of her... how do people usually characterize her?

She's usually portrayed as this warrior-queen badass. You can find a bunch of art with her riding to the rescue in BoFa. Like, if she had been there, she would've whipped Thorin into shape (and Thranduil and Bard too). The big, bad warriors will stand up to Thorin but no one's going to mess with Dis. Stuff like that.
