Jimmy McNulty.

Eh, he's not terrible. He and Carcetti don't sound Bawm'r at all, but they sound passably American. McNulty's kind of wanders off at times, depending on the vowels, but it's okay.

Aiden Gillan comes across more Midwestern/Chicago-y than anything (he sounds like Jeremy Piven), and I can't remember anything in the series that specifically says he's a Baltimore native so I think it's not unreasonable he's from the Midwest. For some reason he can maintain that accent more steadily than whatever blend of Irish and English Littlefinger has!

McNulty's is passable for the most part but especially in season one, there are a lot of times when he just goes completely off the reservation.

& I never thought that way about Carcetti before but it's true, he definitely sounds like he's from Chicago. It works for me even though I'm pretty sure he's meant to be from Baltimore - isn't there some line about some other character having known his father or something?

Oh my god, yes.
