Honestly, the movie itself it pretty amazing -- this coming from a long time Sweeney Todd fan. Visually it's great, great costumes, great sets, mostly great cast, etc. Johnny Depp, though, has all the personality and nuance of a mannequin. :/ I love Johnny Depp, and I was very disappointed with his performance in it -- because I know he could do so much better. Even if he can't sing, he's a much better actor than what he showcased in that film. I guess you could write it off as "character choices", but when your character choice mean employing the same facial expression through 90% of the film, well.
Tl;dr - Movie itself is okay, but Johnny was not.
All my personal opinions, of course. In before I'm flamed to death by Deppfags.

I'm also a long-time Sondheim fan, and I just..can't bring myself to see it. I'm just disgusted. It LOOKS good, and beautiful and all that, but I can't bring myself to see a movie where Tim Burton has used Depp for the 15 BILLIONTH time in a role where he DOES NOT FIT. Depp is not Sweeney to me. And he can't fucking sing. As I said in the above comment to

I think you just summed up all the reasons I'm not going to bother getting this movie when it comes out on DVD. It was good, but it could have been a lot better.
