Boy, you must be happy this week.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-21 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I submitted 2 secrets so obviously I feel comfortable taking complete credit for this

Aww, I just submitted my first secret ever. If F!S is done, does that make my secret overdone? Burnt?

I love how there are 14 secrets the day this is posted!

(No, seriously, I do love it. It's been a while.)

I do too, what incredible timing. I'm glad you finally got your wish OP! (And thanks for submitting so many secrets! You're doing gods work.)

Enh, sites come and go. I'm honestly amazed that F!S is still going and is as active as it is.

I feel that, OP! All the secrets I submit are true things and they are things I would not openly share with anyone I know; however most of them are random observations that I don't really care that much about. I just want to give something back to the community. (And hey, occasionally one unexpectedly ends up generating lots of discussion and/or wank! So it feels worthwhile in the end.)

...Although I don't submit more than a couple of secrets a week, 'cause I often feel mine are kinda dull and I don't want to single-handedly kill off the community with terminal boredom, either. -_-;

(Anonymous) 2015-02-21 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm mostly here to comment because most of my 'secrets' are either such ubiquitous feelings that they can't be considered secrets at all, or things no one else cares about. I have a few I've made, but never submitted.

I haven't been frequenting F!S as long as most of you (only since last year) but even I've noticed a drop off in activity in that time. This makes me think I should be submitting more and contributing in some way.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-21 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
So basically we're just reading your secrets all the time? Do you even have any secrets left, or do you just make them up to post?

OP

(Anonymous) 2015-02-21 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, not all the time, because I save them up so they have a better chance of pushing up the daily count. There'll be three or four weeks where none of the secrets are mine (but this week at least ten of them are! And this is the only one that was posted today, SO PREPARE YOURSELF or something).

Some of them are actually secrets, but a lot of them are things I just really want to get a conversation going about and there's no else to do it with. That seems like it's the case for a lot of secretmakers.

/high fives you

I do this too, OP. :)

Image: a rendering of a taped box with a label that says SECRET

Text: I make secrets not just to get things off my chest but to make sure FS has content. Lately, I’ve been saving them up and trying to submit lots at once to try to push the daily count past 10.

When it winds up NOT getting pushed past 10, even if I’ve submitted like 11 secrets of my own?

That’s when I get scared that people are right and FS really IS dying.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-21 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm curious, OP - when you're submitting lots of secrets close together, do you put in some effort to try and make it not-obvious that they were all submitted by the same person?

I do this (choose a variety of styles of background, range of fonts, different tone in the text, etc). Possibly with limited success since my artistic skills are negligible, but I try!

I often wonder how many contributors there were, for the ~70-80 secrets in any given week...

(Anonymous) 2015-02-21 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I try, too. With my MS Paint and limited skills.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-22 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
I try to do this too

though, gotta admit, it's pretty funny when secrets are so very obviously from the same person

OP

(Anonymous) 2015-02-22 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
I try. I use different fonts and arrange the text and images differently. I guess I do okay at it, because the times when more than one of my secrets have been posted on the same day, no one's said anything!

(Anonymous) 2015-02-22 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
(not the op) Quite some time ago, an anon here said they sometimes tried to mimic the look/style of other peoples' secrets. I thought it was a great idea, so sometimes I do the same thing, taking note of color choices, fonts and layouts, that sort of thing.

But 11 secrets a week only works out to 1 or 2 extra secrets a day.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-22 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
If you were submitting upwards of 35 and the secret count per day wasn't getting over 10, that would be concerning. Case will keep doing this as long as people keep submitting secrets, but I suspect there would be a way to keep going even without submitted secrets - like comment threads for specific fandoms on the first page where people could comment secrets or something.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-22 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
I'd rather have a few good secrets over 14 "I just made up some random stuff to push up the post count". If that's your contribution, and that makes you happy, great! keep it up. I'm not hating.

For me, the random or ubiquitous feelings secrets are the main reason I don't have much to say in the comm anymore. Add in a definite shift towards non-Western media, games and, somewhat obscure fandoms means f!s has become less of a "must visit" site for me.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-22 08:43 am (UTC)(link)
(Not the OP)

So, how many secrets do you submit every week? Because if the answer is zero, I for one don't care very much about what secrets you would or would not like to see, or what your opinions are on secrets that don't meet your oh-so-high standards.
