Out of Practice (2005), sitcom:Follows a family of MDs (and one psychologist) who are hilariously dysfunctional but ultimately loving. Stockard Channing and Henry Winkler play the divorced parents. Chris Gorham, Ty Burell and Paula Marshall play the kids. It lasted a season, and I had all but forgotten about it until a poster last night asked for sitcoms featuring lesbians, of which Marshall's character is. I seem to remember it having a bit of a rough start in the early episodes, but ended up being really fun. It's on Netflix.

Back to You (2007), sitcom: After an on-air meltdown, accomplished news anchor Kelsey Grammer has little choice but to return to the small station where got his start. Also starring Patricia Heaton, Ty Burell, Josh Gad and Fred Willard.

Breaking In (2011), sitcom: When this started, it was kind of like if Leverage were a sitcom on Fox. But it got a short second season that tried to turn it into more of an office comedy that just didn't work. But I'll always love the first season. Starring Christian Slater, Brett Harrison, Alphonso McAuley, Megan Mullally and Jennifer Irwin.

Some of My Best Friends (2001), sitcom: Based on Kiss Me, Guido, Jason Bateman plays a gay writer who needs a roommate after his boyfriend leaves him. I honestly had forgotten about this one until I started this list, and don't really remember all the details. I think there were some confusion and misunderstandings about the new roommate, who isn't gay and might not have realized Jason Bateman's character was gay at first, and maybe they have to pretend to be a couple for some reason? I don't remember and don't have time to look it up, I just remember it being an enjoyable little show the last time I scavenged together some episodes off of Youtube.

And the not-sitcoms.
Firefly: No list would be complete without this. Unpopular opinion: I think Fox did the right thing by not airing the pilot as the pilot. I appreciated it after I was used to the characters, but as an introduction? It's kind of bloated and only marginally exciting.

My Own Worst Enemy: Christian Slater is a spy or some such. The twist is that the government split him into two personalities: Edward, the ruthless guy, and Henry, the family man. Neither have any idea the other exists, until the other personality starts "waking up" at inopportune times (middle of a mission for Edward, some domestic thing for Henry). I still haven't seen the last couple episodes, because it hit a natural act break a few episodes before it was cut for good, and I didn't want to tarnish an otherwise great show with (most likely) an unsatisfying cliff-hanger or something. Also stars Mike O'Malley and a very young Taylor Lautner.

Journeyman (2007): Kevin McKidd plays a reporter inexplicably whisked through time to help people. At first it seems very episodic, but as the series progressed, the people and situations he interacted with in the past come to have big effects on his present. Plenty of great characters, including his wife (Gretchen Egolf), former love interest with a story that thankfully was not all about love triangles and horribleness (Moon Bloodgood), and a skeptical brother (Reed Diamond) who cares about his family, but has kind of had it with all the crap. Used to be on Hulu, but has now apparently disappeared off the planet, unless you managed to snag the European DVD release. I wrote all about it a couple years ago.

Knight Rider (2008): Don't judge me. I thought Val Kilmer did really well as KITT, and I liked the overall dynamic once the show found its footing.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (2007): I almost didn't list this one, because I always forget just how short it was. There was so much story packed into it.

I love that show so much. It was the only reason I hung on to Hulu back when I also had cable and DVR.
