Re: E-cards?

Don't know the deets, obviously, but I think this might be an instance where an e-card is inappropriate. I'd send a real card, or if you can't for some reason, drop a line in some other electronic way.

Agreed. Maybe I'm old fashioned but... well, I wouldn't be offended exactly if someone did this to me because it's the thought that counts but I'd sort of think, "... wow. Sympathy e-card."

2/$1 at the dollar store plus a stamp. Or you can find a nice blank card and just write a personal note in it, I think it'd be a lot more meaningful.

depends. If it was someone who lived in a different country, I'd probably do both. Mostly because depending on the country, it can take 2 weeks for a letter to arrive and this might be a way to immediately let them know.

I still think I'd prefer an email to an e-card. E-cards are just tacky in serious situations.

This. E-mail is even faster since you don't have to hunt down an e-card place and it's a lot more personal. I'd feel a bit weird if someone knew I'd lost a loved one and someone sent me an e-card. WTF, is it 2003 or something? Just send me an e-mail.

OP

Well, my family is a bit rubbish with all this anyway (and it is within the family). My mom suggested a text.

Yeah a text would be worse. I think it depends on how well you know the person. If you have nothing to say about them go for the card not the email. Though normal non ecards are classiest.

OMG no. A text??
