that's just sad.

one day we'll find out (I mean, we know, but we'll collectively realize, once enough kids of anti-vax parents are diagnosed as ASD) that vaccines don't in fact cause autism at ALL and then we'll have deadly diseases on our hands while simultaneously still dealing with autism. And young autistic kids WITH deadly diseases. ugh that'll be awful.

The other really sad thing about the whole anti-vax movement is that a lot of people are like "we found it, we found the cause of autism!" when in fact they just found a scapegoat, and now they're not doing anything to conduct empirical research about autism that might actually be helpful.

Enh, study after study has been done. Wakefield's been discredited. It's no longer about facts; it's about feelings. As long as they FEEL vaccines cause autism, facts don't matter.

Yeah. I'm not a big fan of the, "I'd rather my child risk a lethal, agonizing disease than risk them getting autism!" argument.

It's pretty offensive, innit, when you think of it? It's like implying that autism is SO FUCKING AWFUL that it's worse to have than, say, A LIFELONG DISABILITY DUE TO POLIO. or also like BEING DEAD.

no. no they don't, do they...

YUP. That's why anti-vaxxers are one of the few groups of people on earth who can actively make me angry. It isn't just some intellectual wank about 'my child, my choice' to me, it's something that has really impacted people I know and care about.

It's the worst kind of ignorance, because it risks the lives of people around them. The whole 'choice' bullshit is pure whitewashing.

Shit, "my child, my choice" makes me angry to begin with because NO, YOU DO NOT GET TO DECIDE TO PUT YOUR CHILD'S LIFE IN DANGER, FUCK YOU. These people are so self-absorbed and their kids suffer as a result.

But then you throw in the fact that they're endangering other peoples' children, too and it just makes it even worse.
