We don't know each other IRL and, even in our sparse conversations, I don't make any reference to what I read on her tumblr; I accept that it's a semi-private place and, now, am growing used to the idea that it's also a public space. In fact, I am feeling a little odd about how so many state that it's acceptable to be looking at my friend's tumblr page without telling them.

I'm sorry to hear that you are going through this sort of thing with a friend. Have you tried talking to them about it or made an auxiliary tumblr? With the latter, you could still keep your favored username and create a space for yourself that would not be closely followed by them.

That sounds fine. If it's really bothering you though, maybe you can mention offhand that you stumbled across their tumblr blog? But yeah fandom people/online people finding your other fandom/online things isn't too much of a fuss as there tends to be a lot of crossover or idle mentions.

I wouldn't mind so much but they reference my blog a lot in daily IRL conversations, so it's creeping me out a bit. I wish I'd never given it to her. There's nothing hugely secret going on, I'm just not a fan of people tracking my life closely (or well mentioning that to me).
That and if I do have a bad day, I don't like IRL people knowing cause...none of their business.

This is a good idea. Or I could set the auxiliary tumblr up with my favored name, then change the name of my main. I'll keep all the followers then and not have to tell people but also not have her bookmarking my tumblr...

I can definitely do that, I think. Thank you for the suggestion.

I'm glad you like my suggestion, but I'd recommend keeping your favored name the same and giving the auxiliary account a new name. This may be some paranoia speaking but, I'd imagine, if your friend were to accidentally stumble on this auxiliary account after your name change, they may figure out that this new account is also you. Unless, of course, you did not put any distinguishable features in this auxiliary account with the favored name (i.e. you could reblog things you are interested in, but you'd have to be careful about how you'd write tags or text posts, so that it doesn't sound like you).
