I agree with you, and I have no stake in Legend of Korra's shipping war/wank (all of Korra's love interests kind of suck sadly). I don't think the creators are dicks necessarily, but I do think a lot of fandom classifies them as supercool geniuses desperately fighting against the Nickelodeon *machine* when they've proven to be uneven, sometimes poor writers who seem to want it both ways with their fandom interaction. All I'll say about shipping was that the negative reaction to Mako and Mako/Korra really seemed to catch them by surprise, and they seemed puzzled because that's what they thought the audience wanted. So I do think they're susceptible to fanservice.

The most laughable thing about it is that they genuinely apparently thought that there was any similarity between Mako and Zuko. I loved Zuko and his character arc. I hated Mako because he was a jerk. It's amazing how they managed to make all the characters in atla so compelling, and all the characters in lok so not.
