Well, frequency of visits could point to it being a little obsessive. If you're not checking several times a day, or every time you get online, then you're probably okay. If you can't go a day without seeing what they've said, then maybe that crosses a line.

If you're reading to see if they're talking about you, or to compare yourself to them and their achievements etc., then it might also be a sign you need to step back a bit. You said it's not hate-reading so this doesn't apply, but reading just to see if someone's trolling them or disagreeing with them would count too.

If you're reading because you're genuinely curious and interested in the stuff they post (and e.g. actual following would be weird now you've lost touch off Tumblr), or just once in a while to check in that they're doing okay, then I don't think that's problematic.

As a very general rule, if why you're doing it isn't harmful or malicious to the person OR to yourself in some way, then keep on keepin' on, OP.

If it bothers you though, maybe you could try to rekindle casual communication with them too?

I don't think actual following would be weird. Getting back in touch via tumblr is just as legitimate as getting back in touch via any other medium.
