I know you'd probably prefer to talk with someone who's got firsthand experience, but there's always Google, anon. Americans moving to the UK is a fairly common thing, there's bound to be resources and even peoples' personal accounts of how they did it. It'll be a lot of information to sort through, but if you want the move this bad, you'll have to put in the work.
