I'd gather the reason is that when you say Bosie, you don't even need to specify who you're talking about.
While there's been a bazillion of Douglas in the world.

Even knowing the story and having read quite a lot about Oscar Wilde, I didn't get OP was talking about him until I got to the Bosie part, and even then it took me 2 seconds to remember who it was.
(not Brit or US so I was first wondering if it was a reference to some show I didn't know, and then it clicked)
