Err…no one said Sharon would be a BAD person for falling in love with Steve. Just that a lot of us find it super-squicky.

Like, my aunt's dated some guys MUCH younger than her and the thought of me dating them creeps me the hell out. Just like dating my cousin would. I know in some cultures, though, cousin marriage is perfectly acceptable so, although I personally am squicked out by it, I don't think they're bad people or anything.

Week there is someone upthread saying if Sharon were good she wouldn't ever pursue Steve, but you're right that exact language isn't as prevalent as I implied. But I ju as t can't help thinking that if people were "squicked" by say Steve/Tony because guys kissing was squicky to them, they'd be rightly called out for homophobia. Obviously it's not a perfect parallel but the degree to which Steve/Sharon bothers people is just odd to me.

Probably because Steve/Sharon, unlike Steve/Tony, has a very, very good chance of being canon and (at least for me) it would really negatively impact the way I see the characters.

For Sharon, it would make it impossible for me to identify with her because I find dating people your relatives were in love with to be kind of squicky

For Steve (if he dates Sharon knowing she's Peggy's niece) it just really wouldn't sit well with me, particularly if Peggy is still alive or she's recently died. I love Steve, but it WOULD definitely make me think less of him. Which I really don't want.

I already have an issue with Natasha trying to set Steve up with Sharon. It bothers me because I can't imagine that she doesn't know. Like, of all the people in the world, why the hell would you push Steve to date Peggy's niece?

If it were just a fan pairing, it wouldn't bother me. But that I'm probably going to have to sit through it (and likely be creeped out by it) gets under my skin.

That and I've already seen people called misogynists for not liking it. Which sets my teeth on edge.

Let me give you an example:

I categorically refuse to read any fan fiction that includes both Steve/Howard and Steve/Tony. I do like them individually just fine though.

Why? Because my reactions have always been as follows:

-I feel sorry for Howard that Steve is going after his SON of all people after being in love with him
-I go "Really, Steve? You're going after your lover's KID?" and I'm put off by him. I just can't like him much at all.
-I'm creeped out by Tony and I can't help but think "Why the hell do you want to fuck someone who fucked/wanted to fuck your DAD?"

And so all parties get hit and I can't even enjoy the Steve/Howard (even though Tony wasn't even BORN at that point) --> the Steve/Tony retroactively ruins Howard and Steve's romance for me.

I really, really, really don't want to have to deal with this shit in MCU canon.
