Hey OP! I'm a former starver/overexerciser, and I joined a gym a few months ago, which was very exciting and nerveracking!

My main advice would be (donated by my husband, who is much better about these things than I am) is, START SLOW. Seriously, you've been sick a long time. You're probably going to be frail. Start low, and keep your expectations modest. You can't just leap into swimming a mile three times a week.

Also, make it something you ENJOY. If you don't enjoy it, it's only a matter of time before you quit. (That, or you will be doing something you don't enjoy forever. Yech.)
