I think she's badass from what I've seen (though OITNB is not my cup of tea), but she doesn't really give me a "Doctor" vibe. more fierce than quirky...if that makes sense?

The Doctor can be fierce.

I feel like this secret is an in-joke, or trying to stir up some wank.
Love Laverne Cox though. <3

Let's Be Honest Here

This secret proves one thing: We need an American Doctor Who.

Vote The Librarians for American Doctor Who 2016! In your hearts you know it's right.

This secret comes up every now and then, always with a different American who would be OMG perfect!!!

No, they wouldn't. Not even Laverne Cox.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-25 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
I can't wait for the Doctor to make people check their privilege and call them cis scum.

Is there any reason why you think so, besides muh representation?

(Anonymous) 2015-02-25 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Can't wait for Who to be a white guy again so you can cry oppression

(Anonymous) 2015-02-25 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
I find it funny that people in this thread are responding making fun of OP for things they never said. I guess just liking a trans actress means you must be an evil SJW who's always mouth-frothingly angry about representation! I also find it funny how people are laughing over a "die cis scum" joke, grouping Laverne Cox with Tumblr brats solely because she's trans.

Telling.

She's gorgeous and talented, but I don't know much about her outside of OITNB and I'm not sure what kind of doctor she would make. (Or how the writers would deal with a woman doctor... I like the idea, but I'm wary. Doesn't mean I think it should NEVER happen, but I don't think it'll be soon.)

Maybe she could pull it off, but even if she could... As has been said, she's American and people would freak.

I would never say this unanon but I don't think she's a very good actress.

Sorry.

I can't picture her as the doctor but maybe as a companion (the companions get more interesting stories anyway.) I'd really like a bit of change in the companion department, an American woman of color would be nice.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-25 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
I love her so much and she was awesome on OITNB - and that's coming from somebody who tends to avoid anything to do with trans issues because of tumblr and the SJWs.

But she won't ever be an option for the doctor because:
1. She's american
2. She's a woman (not trying to be unPC here, I'm talking about her gender)
3. She's trans

(Anonymous) 2015-02-25 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
I don't even like Doctor Who and I think this would be a terrible idea.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-25 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
I reaaaaaaaally don't understand this at all. Her vibe is so incredibly different. Where does this thought come from?

American, not a major Dr. Who fan, and piping in to say NOPE, THE DOCTOR IS ALWAYS BRITISH AND ALWAYS WILL BE BRITISH. Leave well enough alone.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-25 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
I have absolutely no idea who she is...

I saw her speak at my school recently and she was amazing, but... nothing about her says "Doctor material."

I dislike it when people point to a person from an oppressed group of people and go "this person needs to play [insert traditionally white cishet role here]!!" without any concern for the person's actual suitability for the part. To me that says you're only seeing the individual's race/gender/sexuality and not their personality, abilities, talent, and just generally who they actually are as a person. It's tokenism.

More representation is absolutely necessary, but there are probably other POC, trans folk, etc. who would actually be suited to this part if given the chance, not just the only one you can think of off the top of your head.

Text: I think she would be the best next Doctor ever

but the fandom would rip me to pieces for supporting an American

I love this secret.

Only thing that would improve it would be some america fuck yeah-isms (y'know a bald eagle, a flag, a quarter pounder, etc.) in the background.

Also lol @ people taking this secret seriously.

For a long time suggesting casting an American as the Doctor was the low-hanging fruit of Whovian trolling. Nowadays? Not so much. Not that the suggesting will be embraced with much enthusiasm, but very few people will get particularly worked up about it.

Some of these replies really suck

(Anonymous) 2015-02-25 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
She doesn't seem like a Doctor from OITNB, so she'd be wrong for the role? So what you saw Capaldi as Malcolm Tucker and thought "The Doctor" did you?

What the fuck is with you people who don't understand what ACTING is?

I actually haven't seen Ms. Cox in anything. *embarrassed* I wouldn't mind seeing Chiwetel Ejiofor in the role though! I know he's a versatile actor, and he's the right nationality. I'm curious what he would do with the role and how he'd interpret it.
