Fictional couples that are friends

[personal profile] bigpaw 2015-02-25 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
There's this tumblr post I've seen a few times that's basically complaining about ~true love~ couples that have such an intense romance, but don't seem to be friends or have fun together at all. "'our love could level a thousand mountains and conquer a million cities' ok but… are you even… like….. friends????" And I was totally agreeing with it so now I figured I'd ask here, what are your favorite examples of couples that are also best friends having tons of fun together? Idk cute fictional romances that aren't just about ~passion~ and seriousness.

Lindsay/Ben and April/Andy from Parks and Rec are couples who are both deeply in love and have a lot of fun with each other

Was coming here to say this. Parks and Rec has the best relationships.

Everything I hear about parks and recs makes me think I should be watching it!

It's a lot of fun. Definitely something to have on in the background if nothing else.

Also, I don't normally recommend this to people about shows but with Parks and Rec you may either way to skip the first season (and maybe even the first half of the second season tbh) or just power through it because it's waaaay different than the rest of the show. The other seasons are hilarious and fun, but Parks and Rec took a while to find its footing and nail down characterizations (among other things, you might be surprised at how much of a dick Andy is at the beginning of the show because it was before they decided that they wanted him to be a lovable goofball)

Mulder and Scully from X-Files.

Also, Dave Nelson and Lisa Miller from Newsradio (for all that their relationship could be rocky)

This is why I like Scrubs so much. Most of the couples (all of the couples?) on that show have relationships that are at least a little bit based on friendship.

Yeah, I did like that about Scrubs. Even Jordan and Dr. Cox had a good foundation for their relationship...one that was kind of built on the fact that they both liked being assholes who made fun of people together, but still. It was sweet in a weird way.

Not a huge fan of Katara/Aang, but definitely Katara/Aang.

It was never "canon" canon, but Sam/Jack from SG1.

Zoe/Wash from Firefly? Their snarky flirting and generally playful attitude counts for me.

Thought you might like to know that Sam/Jack did get canon confirmation. :D They slipped in a scene in Atlantis, where Sam tells Keller that she 'has someone in Washington'. It ended up being cut from the episode, but it's viewable on Youtube.

I don't even ship them! It was still good to get canon confirmation of an honest to god couple that had loads of people rooting for them. :)

I think Elizabeth and Darcy from Pride and Prejudice would have been good friends as well as a married couple. They'd combine book collections and have inside jokes and dread visits from her mother.

I read this as "dead visits."

Yeah, and you made me think of Knightley and Emma. They totally fit! (Emma is my favorite Austen novel btw)

Ronan Lynch and Adam Parish aren't a couple (yet. The attraction is canon and I'm crossing my fingers that the fourth book will come through for me) but they are friends.

Xena and Gabby were friends.

Rick/Evie from the Mummy movies, more in the second one though as you actually get to seem them being a couple instead of them just getting together. But they are one of my all time favourites and it's very clear that they enjoy each others company and work well together on top of being in love.

Zoe/Wash, they were the besssssst for this. They had such a wonderful relationship and they clearly adored one another.

Niles/Daphne, not so much when Niles had his fantasy idealised version of her but once they had gotten together and gotten to know each other better they were so good. Love, trust and friendship abounds man.

There's probably more I'm forgetting but they're the ones off the top of my head.

Linda and Bob from Bob's Burger. Bob gets the shaft sometimes playing the "straight guy" (well at least it's the dude this time!), but I especially like the episode Lindapendent Women for this.

She doesn't just go back to their workplace out of guilt & "duty" like so many sit com moms, but because it's more fun working with Bob.

I remember marathoning the first season, and when in "Hamburger Dinner Theater" Bob tells Linda not to sing, she bursts out with that dramatic, musical "NOOOO!" and it makes Bob laugh, I knew they were going to be my favorite couple.

Mulder & Scully is the first one that comes to mind.

Roseanne and Dan Connor, Mike and Molly (and also, Victoria and Carl) from Mike and Molly, Chandler and Monica, arguably Xena and Gabrielle, occasionally Fry and Leela, Gonzo and Camilla, Danny Fenton and Sam Manson, Red and Kitty Foreman

I tend to get this feeling from battle couples. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BattleCouple My personal favorite is Khalid and Jaheira from Baldur's Gate.

(I was less than pleased when BG2 killed off Khalid and had Jaheira immediately fall in love with the MC . . .)

Ben and Leslie ando also April and Andy from Parks and Recreation.

Kurt and Blaine from Glee in S2 and when the writers don´t make them fight to create pointless "drama".
