I missed the rant thread yesterday, so here's a fandom rant thread instead. Vent away.

If I see another fic with the summary 'what if X were(insert representative theme of your choice here)', it will be a million years too soon.

If they were well written explorations of the issues surrounding those themes, then yes. Okay. I could get behind that. Invariably, however, they're not. Instead, they're almost universally trashy, borderline exploitative crap where either the author uses the character to espouse their own opinions, or the subject at hand is used as a cheap way to hook up X with character Y.

what fandom / pairings / etc

None of the big fandoms. BSG and a couple of others. So far I haven't clicked with anyone.

I am so sick of shows just killing off people left and right. Yeah, I get in the shows I have been watching lately (GoT, TWD, The Wire, other HBO/AMC shit) are set in dangerous worlds.

But honestly, I don't even get sad when characters die anymore. It is like, "Well of course they were going to die. It's an HBO show. So fucking what."

At this point, I get more emotional over a character surviving a season.

Yeah, I can understand that. It's especially a shame in GoT because in the books it still has the capacity to surprise you. But there's something so much, IDK, cheaper? Shallower? In the way HBO delivers the story that you get almost bored by it. It's a real fucking shame given that the first season was done really well.

HBO have ramped up the shock value in their shows to the point where it has no impact anymore, I guess.

No impact at all! It just makes me not get attached to characters.

I feel like the creators are twelve year olds trying to be deep when that happens.

I don't know, it just reeks of poor writing. :(

Feel you so hard on the HBO shock-value bs.

At least they didn't kill off Rust on True Detective. I was ready to throw my TV out the window old-skool style if they did.

I was shocked at the end of Season 2 of The Wire because not everyone died!

I am just glad Nick and his family survived.

I wish there was more middleground on television with how many characters get killed, it's either no one ever dies ever (to the point that adventures become unbelievable) or everyone dies all the time always.

Death definitely starts to have less of an impact when it happens constantly. I was surprised the last TWD death (or the last one I saw, I am two eps behind) made me sad because even though I like the character, I'm just caring less and less.

Like if they really want to shock us they should lull us into a false sense of security for a while and then kill a bunch of characters at once.

That would not even shock me anymore. I am just like meh.

It's gotten to the point where i've blocked about 1000 people on tumblr and I swear 500 of them are from the Ever After High and Monster High tags combined. Stop fucking double posting, stop being racist fuckers, stop being little shits about harmless opinions, stop acting offended when someone feels differently about a doll, stop being ridiculous.

The only people I feel mildly bad about blocking are the RPers. They seem like nice people but they just clutter the tags.

I had block people who acted like we completely erased or killed Honey when one person, who owned 3 dolls for that character, decided ti fucking experiment with her hair.

Yes, there's implications, in certain situations, but this is a fucking doll owner who was messing around with HER FUCKING DOLL. She didn't hold a goddamn gun to the tags collective heads and nake THEM do that. Piss off tag. Ugh.
