If I see another fic with the summary 'what if X were(insert representative theme of your choice here)', it will be a million years too soon.

If they were well written explorations of the issues surrounding those themes, then yes. Okay. I could get behind that. Invariably, however, they're not. Instead, they're almost universally trashy, borderline exploitative crap where either the author uses the character to espouse their own opinions, or the subject at hand is used as a cheap way to hook up X with character Y.
