I was also 100% supportive of Anders blowing up the Chantry. The Chantry sucked. That Revered Mother, whatever her name was, was the WORST - she was the only one who was able to resolve the conflict peacefully but she refused to do jack shit, and let the Templars oppress the mages to such an insane degree. Furthermore, I could never forgive her for harboring that bitch evil Chantry Sister who basically sent that qunari mage to die and tried to kill us too, then murdered Seamus... and only when Hawke confronts the Mother face to face does she finally do something about said Evil Bitch Sister.

I shed no tears at her explosion, nor the what, three or four other nuns in the building at that time. I would've volunteered to help Anders blow the damn thing up if he had asked me.

Some dialogue in Inquisition suggests that hundreds were killed in the Chantry explosion iirc. Unfortunately, DA2 doesn't set it up that way, instead it's "oh no Anders blew up this empty building!" because every time you visit the Chantry there's like two sisters tops. The Qunari invasion was done so well in comparison that the Chantry really fails to seem like a catastrophe.

Well, 100% supportive is a bit strong imo. What frustrates me most is that he didn't kill the right people! I mean, there were probably people who had nothing to do with mages in that chantry. I do agree that the chantry was responsible for the oppression and the Mother did deserve to die because she allowed the situation to fester by doing nothing, but Anders should have targetted the templars and Meredith specifically - and I would have helped him without hesitation.

Too bad Sebastian was not in the chantry though.

Agreed! I worked that bastard to 100%, and he still turns on me the moment I tell him I'm not going to shank my prankster boyfriend. What's the point of doing anything with Sebastian if he'll just turn on you anyway. His buffs don't matter, he's just a crappy archer and if you want a ranged rogue, there is zero reason why you wouldn't be using Varric.

In Inquisition Varric said that the explosion killed at least a hundred people. In the actual cutscene you can see fire spreading, and it's not like debris from the explosion falls into neat piles.

I have a pet theory that Grand Cleric Elthina was, to a degree, stuck in a situation where, if she did try to change things Merideth would have rebelled against her and accused her of being possessed or manipulated by blood mages. However at the same time I also think that if she had done something more than just tell everyone to calm down, earlier on, she had more chance of getting through to Merideth when she was not as far gone on the Red Lyrium as she got later.

But then I also think Elthina is a great example of someone who fails to act, badly, while thinking her inaction is the best way.
