What is this? I keep hearing about it, but don't really know what it is. Except that maybe it's part of the 90s nostalgia fad.

Is it just a clothing style? A type of music? A subculture?

Mostly I just see things on social media tagged with it, which doesn't really help.

I think it's more of a Tumblr aesthetic than anything else.

I'm imagining someone's selfie tagged with it on instagram; they're whimsically standing in a park wearing a skirt and a fashionably cut flannel shirt, and using a grainy filter.

I think it's anything grungy or gothic with pastel overlays and flowers everywhere? Also upside-down crosses. I only know this from image searches. Music or subculture, idk.

Secret: I kind of like it.

This is pretty much it. It's like a softer/prettier version of grunge, with some goth influences. I think of it as Forever 21 grunge.
