Noooo I have experienced a novice phlebotomist that didn't know what they are doing. 98% accuracy is a gift. I give thanks to you, anon.

Haha, sorry you had to go through that! Well, I do have to defend the novices. Even the best phlebotomists can't get 'em all. Some people have thin, deep veins, some people's veins are almost impossibly shallow, and sometimes people have great veins but for some reason it just doesn't work. I still remember being stumped by one kid who had fat veins that were super visible with the pressure cuff, looked impossible to miss, and none of us could get him going. We switched to the other arm and had our best phleb give it a try, and still no dice. But yeah, experience does help, and sadly the only way for the novices to get better is to keep doing it!
