It's like a weird game, also called My Sweet Love, you're supposed to buy adorable outfits and be adorable and try to get the guys. I imagine OP is "doing it wrong" because the avatar is in, like, sweats and is sticking her tongue out and clearly not trying to be Adorable Sweet Girl, but w/e, play it how you wanna play it!
