Musical Carousel
Let’s make this a thing FS. Here’s how it goes, post a song and the person who replies to you listens to it then rates it and comments, and posts a song themselves. It doesn’t have to be the same person. That’s it!
1. The only rule to NOT replying is if you already know the song and have an opinion on it.
2. When you rate the song, try to leave more feedback than “like it good song”. Post a sentence or two on why you gave the rating you did. Do not comment on the taste or character of the person you’re replying to. There is no cult of nice, if you hate the song, you can say so. But please say why.
3. If two people reply to the same song, that’s fine, just start a new thread. We will make a mighty tree of endless grooves.
4. This isn’t a hard rule, but don’t fucking like post national anthems or something. The point is to introduce people to music they might not have otherwise heard.

Re: Musical Carousel
Nice guitar noodly riff to open, always did like that open chord arpeggio thing. Lead vocals are STRONGLY reminiscent of Pearl Jam (like I'm looking it up right now to see if they're the same person... haha wow there's like three of the same people in this). Could stand to be a little bit more complex either lyrically or melodically but that's personal preference, either that or cut out about a minute's worth of "I'M GOIN' HUNGRYYYYYYYYY" in the middle. Overall probably 3 out of 5.

Re: Musical Carousel
Though maybe some would find it off-putting I thought the wailing sax in the background really elevated the whole song and made it stand out, when it could've been a kind of generic chanting magical choir type thing. It was really pretty. But maybe more unique lyrics/melody would've made it stand out more. 7/10.

Re: Musical Carousel
Although it does remind me a little of this song (which I didn't like at first and was an acquired taste):

Re: Musical Carousel
Temple of the Dog, "Hunger Strike" - this is good, and I like it. It has a good melodic vibe and pretty, you know, intense and driving. The instrumentation doesn't quite work for me, for reasons I can't quite pin down - I think I either want it to be slightly more mellow, or move faster and be more pop-rock. It's a little too hard-rock and grunge-ish for my tastes. But mostly really cool.

Re: Musical Carousel
Ehhh, this type of music isn't really my thing. After listening I'm pretty sure the biggest break for me was the vocals, which I found kind of too-cute and grating. I actually really like the instrumentation in the background and the brass especially, it set a nice pleasant tone. Not a bad song, just not my style. 5/10-ish.

This is totally unrelated

(Anonymous) 2015-02-28 04:07 am (UTC)(link)Normally I don't need to understand the lyrics to enjoy a song because I can forget it's a voice and think of it as one more musical instrument, but with this particular type of singing voice, I can't unhear the fact that it's a human voice, because it's a kind of talking/wailing sort of singing?
Anyway, it does have a lot of emotion and I can see where the people who enjoy it are coming from, but it's not for me.
Here's my song:
