I don't like Fucked Up Friday. It's why I don't put warnings on my secrets (and yet, this week, mine still seemed acquire one), because at least then there's a chance they'll fall on convenient days for me.

I guess I can thank this shit-ass cold snowy weather for today being a convenient exception.

If you are going to talk about rape in your secret, it's going to get a warning.

Why don't you put warnings on your secrets?

I've already answered your question.

Re: confessions

If you are going to talk about rape in your secret, it's going to get a warning.

Didn't used to be that way. Warnings were voluntary. But I guess enough people complained that Case decided to add one more duty to his list of (also voluntary) duties.

This makes no sense to me. If you're so triggered by the mere mention of the topic, how do you function in the real world? I mean, I hear it talked about on the news and in the newspaper all the time. I can get warning for graphic depictions of rape (verbal or images), but how does something that just mentions it deserve a warning?

NAYRT, or any of the anons in this thread, but I don't see why content warnings hurt anyone, either. I mean, as far as I know I don't have any triggers, but if I had any I'd appreciate being warned. Especially since FS isn't the real world. Most RL venues don't devote so much time to fandom minutiae and I like that FS is an escape from stressful RL stuff. (Sometimes an escape into pointless wank, but oh well.)

I sort of like it, it's just that often i can't make it on fridays so that sucks.

Re: confessions

(Anonymous) 2015-02-28 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
It does suck. If I make a secret, I at least want the chance for it to be posted on a day I can participate. Every Friday for the past year has been bad for me, because I work Friday evenings. This one was just super super lucky.

Forced warnings are bullshit. If you don't have a handle on your reaction to triggers, it's your responsibility to either not come here or to ask someone if there are secrets to avoid. It's not that hard, just make an anon thread saying "Hey, I can't handle xyz, anything I should skip?"

Eh, I don't mind the forced warnings (a couple of my secrets have gotten them), but it does kind of throw me off a little bit because I start thinking that maybe I screwed up the link or it got failbar'ed without me noticing.

OP
While I kind of agree with AYRT, I think I'd feel different about force warnings if the warning didn't mean the secret was forced to a particular day.

Wouldn't replying to such a thread be exactly as much work as including a warning with the secret in the first place?

Re: confessions

(Anonymous) 2015-02-28 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
I don't follow what you're getting at here? Anyone who'd seen the post as a whole could answer the question "Does this post have something that will upset me?"

Warnings are voluntary. If you feel like it should come with a warning then you do it and if you don't care then you don't have to worry about it and case will do what he sees fit. Choosing to warn when you submit a secret is exactly as much trouble as choosing to reply to a "is there anything I should be worried about?" thread but saves on time and the same answers repeated over and over.

Re: confessions

(Anonymous) 2015-02-28 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
What part of not using a warning because I don't want to ensure my secret is posted on a day that is inconvenient for me is so hard to grasp? It's not about how "hard" it is to warn either before posting or after, it's about hoping to get a chance to participate in my secret's comments.

Re: confessions

(Anonymous) 2015-02-28 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Do you lack reading comprehension or did you purposely misread that so you could get pissy? She said right in the comment you're replying to that someone can either warn if they want to or skip warning if they don't.

Re: confessions

(Anonymous) 2015-02-28 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Then I don't understand what the point of her comment is at all. She's not adding anything new except this element about how it's no harder to warn than it is to reply.
