Depends on what you like I guess? Phob's style is very anime. And her Sauron is very blonde. And I'm going through a blonde phase right now. And it is just hitting my buttons.

I suppose I just need to tell myself that this is his Annatar form, which is supposed to be hot.

He is... surprisingly pretty for an evil jerk.

That makes more sense. I vaguely remember something in the Silmarillion about him being able to disguise himself. It's been a few years.

Yup. Melkor could too. Melkor liked taking the big scary dark lord form, so he got stuck in it. Sauron liked taking on a more attractive form to trick people. He lost the ability to take a beautiful form after the destruction of Numenor. Annatar is specifically the form he took to trick Celebrimbor into helping him make the rings of power.

I can see that face being very convincing.
Melkor became Morgoth, and Sauron was his second in command? I need another read-through.

Sauron should feel blessed he had no physical form. He didn't get covered in the black goo of evil by PJ.

Yup. Sauron was one of the Maia he corrupted, and he became Morgoth's Lieutenant. The rankings could be a bit confusing because Gothmog is mentioned as a captain. But it does seem like Sauron was the second in command, he was just in charge of more of the magical stuff whereas Gothmog did the military stuff.

And depending on how you interpret the characters, Sauron may have been a bit of the brains in terms of strategy and stuff. At least some interpretations have Melkor as more impulsive whereas Sauron thinks things through more. But there are differing interpretations.

Ahh. Thank you. I keep thinking I should remember it better, and I remember events, but not characters. To be fair, having a movie version of The Hobbit stopped me from just thinking of them as "ones that end in 'ri' " etc.

At least there's no sexy Gothmog art? Or if there is, I never need to see it. Just. No.

If there is someone out there who heard balrog and thought sexy, I really, really don't want to know.

I have not stumbled across any Gothmog shippy fics yet. An author I like does write Sauron and Gothmog as at least as close to friends as either of them have, but she keeps them in character and manages to make it work in a weird way.

That sounds okay, actually.

I've read many things just because I needed to know what the appeal was, but if I ever come across a Balrog/Gandalf whipping fic, I will not click.

Yup. Sort of my type, though my male type tends to be a bit more muscled. But damn if that isn't pretty much the hottest thing I've seen ever.
