My favourite DWJ books are the Chrestomanci series, I'm so totally in love with it. And The Amazing Maurice is one of my favourite Discworld books! Naturally, my favourite Discworld books are the ones in which Vetinari stars the most, but The Amazing Maurice comes right after them, it's just a really great book. I think it was a bit different from the usual Disc style, and I don't just mean in that it's a children's book either, but it is just as good a read as I expect from the series (barring the later books ofc).
Ugh, I love Vetinari way too much though. And I feel compelled to tell you that most of my Disc friends end up shipping V/D too haha. Probably because you have to at least think that ship plausible to be friends with me ... Vetinari has been the main focus of my fandom life for the past two years, so I tend to yammer about him a lot, which leads me to talking about his relationship with Drumknott too. And I just like Drumknott a lot because a) we share a lot of interests (though that's not why I ship him with Vetinari!) and b) I'm really into cute secretaries.
I feel you there on the SJ stuff too actually, I'm pretty interested in representation as well. But yep, it's definitely very American-centric and aggressive, it always makes me feel just awful so I leave the 'trying to fix the world' stuff to irl and try to just chill when I'm in fandom spaces.
Eek sorry this is so long, I don't know when to stop sometimes. To wrap up, yes of course, feel free to add me and hit me up whenever :3 I mostly just post the odd V/D fic to my DW and my LJ is all references for my Pokemon game, but my Tumblr has some more interesting conversation starters. Anyway, feel free to hit me up for a chat whenever n_n

My unreliable memory says I never finished the Chrestomanci series because that library didn't have all of it, but I did like what I read, and one of the books introduced me to pound decimalisation and the colour dove-grey. The things I remember. Amazing Maurice really opened my eyes to what could be done with a novel.
I think V/D is plausible, I just don't ship it. It's not a NoTP, I've read and liked a couple of implied and pre-slash fics on AO3, but fics with it as the main focus are pretty low on my priority list and I don't get a kick out of the idea. I'm usually interested in meta regardless of ship, and some time ago on Tumblr I've read what I really think was yours (just not digging it up because it's getting late) about the Renaissance idea of a secretary and the treatment of Drumknott's character in later books. On later books, UA was still ok for me, but Snuff was my downhill point (here is just some of a lot of commentary I agree with).
Will add you now! Hope to chat again about something one day.

Haha yep, sounds about right. Chrestomanci is famous for his lovely dove-grey suit. You should finish it if you ever get the chance though, there are so many amazing characters in the series and I really do think it's her best work, even better than Howl's Moving Castle (which is way overrated imo).
Yeah, I agree with you about the later Disc books. UA is still acceptable to me although I still ignore most of it in terms of canonity (there are some parts with Ridcully giving an overly-long and really dumb commentary that are just embarrassing to read for me), even as much as I admire Pterry for continuing to write even through his failing health. Have you read Raising Steam? I think it was better than Snuff, definitely more readable by a mile, and there are actually quite a few parts with Drumknott in it that I appreciate a lot. I just wish that bigger role had been given to him in an earlier book since there are so many parts that are just downright upsetting too ...
PS Sorry for the late-night reply, it's exam week at my school. I swear I'm not usually this busy haha

Nope, haven't read Raising Steam yet. That's a relief. But even if it were bad reviews all around (I haven't actually looked, but I think it's not the case), Discworld has too much of a hold on me for me to give up seeing it through.
Haha, don't worry about it :)
