Have you ever been compared to a fictional character?

What was the most flattering?
Least flattering?

Least flattering - (looks-wise) Tim Robbins in Howard the Duck, (personality-wise) any character Quentin Tarantino played, (horrible coping strategies-wise) Londo Mollari

Most flattering - UUUUHH. NONE? (Looks-wise) Kenshiro from the live action Fist of the North Star? Even though I was pissed at the comparison at the time, the dude who plays him is p hot, so. That's pretty much it, lol.

I know you consider it unflattering, but Tim Robbins is actually cute in Howard the Duck

A friend of mine pictured me as the Heavy (from TF2) in a black turtleneck and beret.

Neither of us really know how that works.

You're pretty much comic book guy from the Simpsons with a hearing aid to me.

My mom said the same about me. Not sure whether that makes her Amanda.

Joseph Bell and Sherlock Holmes are the most flattering comparisons. Few compliments make me happier than someone's comparing me to Bell. Which makes sense, seeing as I'm proud of my erudition and academic performance and observation skills, and as I very much aspire to be the sort of kind and selfless person Bell was.

My mother compared me to Charlie Babbitt from Rain Man when it turned out that I was a hundred percent indifferent towards my newborn brother and actively avoided interacting with him (I've always disliked babies. I have no idea what to do when I'm around them. They're boring, annoying, and invasive). She actually recommended me to watch the film for precisely this reason. I did watch it and it did cause me to be supremely creeped out by her thought process.

I think both most and least flattering is that a lot of my friends are comparing me to Haikyuu!!'s Tsukishima. It's ... kinda nice because I really like that character and he is pretty smart and a great snarky character but on the other hand he's a bit of an ass and I'm actually a pretty nice person so apparently my friends don't think so?
I mean, I get where they are coming from - Tsukishima is basically me at my most negative setting. Which doesn't happen often, but it happens. But most of the time I'm more like

BBC Sherlock, Bones (from Bones, not Star Trek), Arwen, Katniss,

Most flattering was probably Katniss, because it was in the context of which one of us was most likely to survive a Hunger Games-type battle to the death.

Creepy dude telling me I looked like Arwen and then throwing an actual tantrum like a five year old when I wouldn't be his elf-bride or whatever was unflattering and embarrassing.

Sherlock and Bones I am neutral about. My friends are allowed to tease me, and I'm aware I'm not the best at making smalltalk. Weirdly flattered that people who have seen me burn toast and get locked out in my pyjamas still think I'm a genius. I'm a menace when I'm bored, too.

Someone threw an actual tantrum... WTF? How did that come about?

Did he think HE was comparable to Aragorn, then?

For some reason I mostly just get compared to real people. weirdest were Beth Ditto (who I look nothing alike, except for being overweight) and Monica Lewinsky; not sure how I feel about either.

Re: Fictional character comparisons

(Anonymous) 2015-03-02 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
if anybody compared me to Monica Lewinsky I'd slap the shit out of them.

A friend of mine said I looked like Amy Pond (Doctor Who) once, but that was mostly due to my short skirt.

Other than that I get called Sheldon surprisingly often considering that except being very neat we don't have that much in common, also see: Sherlock.

The one I actually like being compared to is Mycroft Holmes*, which happens once in a while, especially by my closer friends.

*who wouldn't like being compared to someone who runs the British Government from the shadows?

Least flattering: Back when I was working as a cashier, one of the regulars completely unprompted turned to the friend they were with and said "I know who she reminds me of! She's just like that secretary girl in 'What Women Want'. Doesn't she look like she's thinking just like her? Do you know that character? I swear you're just like her!" I'd never seen the movie so I just sort of blinked then said thank you. When I told my sister after I got home she got the sort of offended cold-ragey stare she gets when people are unkind to me for a second, then told me the character was suicidal....

Most flattering: Drew Barrymore's version of Cinderella in the movie "Ever After". I was with my mom while we were visiting one of her friends. The movie came on tv while they were talking, then halfway through it my mom's friend started saying how much like her I looked and acted.

A friend of mine asked if I was a libertarian because I reminded her of Ron Swanson

I don't even know, man

(I am not a libertarian, for reference)

Flattering I don't know, but: House.
When my friend compared our relationship to that of House and Wilson.

(She was laughing when she said it I swear!)

The annoying know-it-all guy everyone seems to love on Criminal Minds. Ew.

I got compared to Daria, but I felt very unflattered about that.

My dad says my sister and I are like the two old man muppets that make laugh at everyone's expense. I liked that one.

aaaand according to that same sister, I am the Rick to her Morty? I like that one too.

A classmate said I talk like and kinda look like Tina Belcher from Bob's Burgers.

I don't watch it, but I've seen some gifs and that classmate showed me some Tina quotes, and said it was a positive comparison. I'm not sure how to feel about it since I think it's more because of my glasses than the things I say, but I said it was cool and I'm fine with it even though I don't exactly get it.
