Re: Gamergate

I feel like they all have different reasons, some of them may truly be concerned about gaming journalism.

But there is also the very real fact that some women internalize a lot of misogyny and essentially become their own enemy. Look at some of the women in politics or any male dominated field, it seems like it goes one of three ways, either you spend your whole life fighting the dominant way of thinking, you spend your whole life just trying to get through and keeping your head down, or you end up internalizing so much of what you hear that you end up siding with people who are really not on your side.

I know a girl like this, she posts some really disturbing videos and thought pieces about the women involved in GamerGate. She always thinks she's supporting her argument when she does it, but I swear everything she posts turns into a "Why I hate women" rant. If she were posting articles that were just about gaming journalism I wouldn't have a problem, but she's the type of person who doesn't even think sexism exists and it's both disturbing and sad to me.

One of the few way for a women to wield power in intensely misogynistic societies is to have power over other women. It is rare to get power over men, but at least they can tell other women what to do and mock other women (and some dissenting men, who by definition are unmanly). By oppressing other women they lift themselves off the bottom rung. Sure they can never reach the top societal rung, but they are no longer at the bottom either.

The same applies to Gamergate.
