haha, I was in a choir once where the director suddenly decided that what we needed was synchronized hand gestures.
She got a whole lot of flat looks and very grudging participation. Thankfully, that kept our gestures to the bare minimum.

Apparently, the body percussion comes with the territory: I've Youtubed a bunch of recordings of women's groups performing it, and nobody omitted the body percussion. I had the good luck to find a video demonstrating it--slooooowly!--and finally managed to get it.

But I still think it looks like Miss Mary Mack.
