:'( I remember when DeForest Kelley died; it was the first time I really had the sense that an era was beginning to close, and it's only been heightened now that James Doohan and Leonard Nimoy are gone too.

Also, secondarily, the actors who played Kang, Kor and Koloth are all dead now too. :(

I remember too. I was so sad, because the trio was no more, and it was definitely the end of an era.

Being reminded of mortality does indeed suck. I am sad when a beloved actor/actress/author, etc has passed away. Even more so as I watch my own mother die as her body slowly works against itself.

But in the end we remember what they brought us: it might be joy, it might be a life lesson. Remembrance is how we deal with mortality.

Never forget.

Mother FUCK

I just started reading William Shatner's tweets about Leonard.

Oh man did it hurt.

I can't do this.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-01 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
:( *hugs for anon if wanted* I liked that he said that making those tweets was healing, though.

I'm trying not to cry, reading this.

It won't be so hard to lose Cullen. Michael Bay has softened the blow my making godawful TF movies which have left me disconnected with TF fandom and I've pretty much said goodbye to it already. Nimoy was still in ST movies, and cameoing on TV, and in ads, and in loads of stuff. For all he was 83 he still seemed to have so much left and so many good roles ahead of. Unlike Shatner, whose best roles are long behind him and whom I will not feel so grieved after. Now Takei...that one will suck, really suck.

Peter Cullen is voicing Optimus in the new Robots in Disguise cartoon, so there's that.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-01 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but he's an Obi Wan ghost in that and the show is focused on Bumblebee. Jesus, I'd rather have Hot Rod before Bumblebee as a central character. Or at least a Bumblebee that isn't a VW Bug. Bumblebee is not supposed to be a cool car or character!

I loved Sulu, but I see how Takei looks now, and I'm prepared for him to die.

I'll probably cry for days over Nichelle Nichols, though, in a way I'm not over Nimoy. And I really like Nimoy, but it's Nyota.

Really?? I think Takei looks great, and he's so amazing, with all his advocacy, theatrical projects, internet humor, etc. He's finally married to his long-time partner, and he's not that old, and he's healthy. Why are you "prepared for him to die"? I mean, we're all gonna die, yeah, but as far as I know, Takei's not in death's waiting room -- far from it. The man has passions, is busy and seems full of energy.

I was feeling pretty cruddy this week already because of the passing of time thing (significant birthday coming up) and then this happened and piled more misery upon me :(

It hit me even harder because Spock is a part of my DAD's childhood, never mind mine. We bonded over Star Trek (among others) when I was little. I'm seeing my dad tomorrow and I want to squish him so hard.

Cullen seems like a pretty cool person. With plenty of years ahead. *nod*

(Anonymous) 2015-03-01 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
He hasn't even been on Top Gear as the Star in the Reasonably Priced Car yet! He has to go that before he is allowed to pass on.

All men are mortal, OP.

If we begin to die when we live, and long life be but a prolongation of death, our life is a sad composition; we live with death, and die not in a moment.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-02 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, living a fantastic life full of love and success to 83 years old seems like a wild success. Everybody dies.

Yes to all of this.

Text: Being reminded of a man's mortality sucks.

I'm completely gutted by the recent passing of Leonard Nimoy. He was such an icon and had a big impact on my life. I discovered Star Trek through TNG in the 80's and dug back deeper in its history, where I found TOS. I was hooked the moment Spock first came onscreen.

Now I am seriously dreading the day we lose Peter Cullen. He is at an age where a heart attack or stroke could drop him like a hat and I'm not sure I'll be able to handle it. He IS Optimum Prime and no one on Earth can reproduce that voice of my childhood.

Both of these men have massive places in my fandom life and have shaped me as a person.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-01 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I also feel like my life was shaped by Spock.

NOPE FUCK OFF SATAN

Just wanted to point out that there's no magic 'age' where a heart attack or a stroke can 'drop someone like a hat.' It's pretty much any age.

Alas, Nimoy. You will be remembered with fondness!
