Scenes/Scenarios/Movies You Thought Might Badly Because of Other Movies

I was half convinced the younger sister (Kit?) in A League of Their Own was going to get hit in the head with a baseball and die. Or die in some other way, but I was sure if she did that would be how.

SECONDHAND LIONS SPOILERS

(Anonymous) 2015-03-01 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought one or both of the uncles was going to die at the end, so I wouldn't even see the movie until I was convinced to. (I'm so glad I did!)

... technically I was right, they both did die, but it wasn't some morbid downer ending.

That movie is wonderful. I should watch it again.

Whenever a character wants to talk to another character alone (especially in some abandoned place) I automatically assume one of them is going to die.

Unfair as it is, I was convinced that Ralph Fiennes' character in Skyfall would turn out to be evil solely because of his acting resume. My mom felt the same way, so at least I wasn't alone in this.

I recently saw Kingsman: The Secret Service, and I was immediately suspicious of Mark Strong's character solely because I'm more accustomed to him playing villains, so I feel you.

It's been a long time since I saw it but I thought he was working against the secret agency in some way.

But honestly I felt the same way watching Grand Budapest.

Series rather than movie, but that scene in Penny Dreadful where Frankenstein's monster is operating machinery to lift his only friend and mentor on a 19th century stage platform, I thought for sure something was going to go horribly wrong and his mentor would get mauled and he'd have accidentally killed his only friend. Especially since the monster's own scars were explained by said mentor as an 'industrial accident', and that they worked for a theatre that specialised in gore. PD isn't exactly shy about it's gothic horror tropes, and 'monster accidentally kills his only friend' is an ancient one, after all. But the stage machinery worked perfectly. I was pleasantly surprised by that.

Spoilers for Agent Carter

After Angie helps Peggy hide from the SSR agents when they're talking and Angie goes 'maybe you'll tell me about it someday' right at that point my brain was screaming THAT'S IT SHE'S A GONNER, SHE'S DEAD, ANGIE DOES NOT LIVE, just because of the number of times I've seen a secondary character who was in the dark about the heroes true purpose or job end up dead because they know too much or were about to know too much.

I was so happy to be proven wrong.

Oh god, me too! "Maybe you'll tell me about it someday" shouldn't sound so foreboding. I kept thinking, "NOOOOOOOOO Angie, now someone is going to murder you and Peggy is going to look back at this moment and weep."

I know! I was so completely sure Angie was going to bite it and I was prepared to be sad when it happened but then it... didn't. Instead they get to live in one of Stark's fancy places forever~

(This is actually the thing I'll console myself with if they don't get to do anymore with AC, Angie and Peggy shack up forever, it's canon :P).

Well we know from Winter Soldier that she gets married, but...that's what we have imaginations for! (I'm going to pretend she and Angie are together for the rest of time too, because all the other pairings rub me the wrong way. Except Steve/Peggy, which...obviously isn't an option for her anymore.)

Even though I know they don't actually die in the majority of their movies, I always expect Liam Neeson or Sean Bean to bite it in the end (or Sean Bean will turn evil).

Not a movie and there's no specific scene to tie it back to, but at the end of Spartacus I just knew that Agron and Nasir were going to die. I had told myself early on to prepare for the eventuality of them both dying horribly, and they ended up being two of the few characters to get out alive.

Thank you Steven DeKnight.

I'm still overjoyed that they made it out alive. I fully expected them to die because well, Spartacus, but they made it! It's also kind of funny because a bunch of people were basically setting up a death watch for them because they figured they'd get killed off like the last gay couple did but...nope. Last guys standing.

God, yea. I didn't think they were going to die because they were gay, but because...as you say, Spartacus. Rarely do happy people stay happy for long in that show, and if there's a loving, sweet couple then they're probably going to be torn apart and/or murdered at some point, that's just how things work.

The final season was so stressful for me, especially near the end; I spent every episode on the edge of my seat, not wanting to look at the screen, knowing that they were going to die, just not when.

I can barely believe they made it, but they totally deserved to and I'm glad the series ended with some joy.

I need to watch this show. I'm elated the canon gay couple lives!

Be aware there's lots and lots of sex (including rape), cursing, violence and gore and death, but if none of that phases you then it is definitely something I'd say to give a shot. At least you know one of the adorable gay couples lives so you wouldn't spend the entire final season fretting over their fate. (However, they aren't the only gay couple, and not all of them are so lucky.)

It is quite the entertaining show, though. The cast is pretty stellar and it's only three seasons long (33 episodes) so it isn't too difficult to catch up with. (There's also Gods of the Arena which adds another six episodes, but you could maybe skip it if you're interested.)

Yeah same, like I was sure they'd die because hey Spartacus, everyone dies. But they didn't! They got to live! And I shall forever be happy about that.
