Golden Age SF.

I love the sense of hope and optimism in it, but it just breaks my heart to realize our species is going to die stuck on this one ball of dirt and never see the universe. We're not even going to have proper robots! No flying cars (only two years away, for the last thirty years) either.

I don't think you need to give up hope of space travel quite yet. I fully expect that by the time I'm very old, there will be a colony on Mars.

As for flying cars, I'm sure glad we don't have them, not when car accidents are so common and so deadly. We need a ton more improvements across the industry before we can let people fly cars.

Unless the earth and all humans die when we all do, I think you're majorly jumping the gun on assuming that at least any of those will occur.
