(Anonymous) 2015-03-01 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)My problem with the Nolan films (outside of them boring me) was that they weren't Batman films. Batman can be dark, sure, but Batman is also several different levels of insane and fantasy and Nolan tried to take all that away. Nolan didn't give us Batman, he gave us a gritty crime drama that for some reason a man in a bat costume is running around in.
The Marvel films aren't perfect either but I can't complain because they at least feel like their comic counterparts and they are super fun to rewatch.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-02 03:26 am (UTC)(link)I also like Guardians of the Galaxy and Iron Man, because they're a lot of fun. I'm not a huge fan of any MCU films between those two, because there's a lot of style and no substance.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-03 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)Dark Knight's world was surprisingly close to the original - keeping in mind there are lots of different times and tones for comics Batman-
I don't like a lot of the Marvel movies because they're just cool and fun, merely entertaining to watch, and I prefer dark and depressing where you might stop to think about things.
What saddens me is the plot formula for superhero movies getting really repetitive: big catastrophy threatening man kind, superhero battles and finally saves the day (and dear Nolan made something more relatable and revealing by going a little deeper into the characters).
I'm sure I'd enjoy such a plot but now when there are hero movies so often each year, I'm numbed to that excitement.
