Forgotten stuff you like

(Anonymous) 2015-03-01 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Inspired by finding the entire run of the short-lived TV series "The River" on my backup drive and bingeing it all last week. I think my best friend and I might be the only two people on the planet who watched it, but I was thoroughly charmed by the way they made the found-footage style feel organic, the great scenery, and Paul Blackthorne.

So what about you, FS? What lives on in your heart, even if nobody else knows it existed?

Special Unit 2 -- quirky and very un-PC but a lot of fun
Eleventh Hour (US) -- one of my first het ships; I enjoyed the cases and I liked that the FBI agent was the woman and the scientist in need of protecting was the guy
Kung Fu Legend Continues -- purely for the nostalgia factor. I recently rewatched and it's hilariously bad but I had my first crushes on this show
The Golden Hour -- I didn't see this when it came out and more people are jumping on the bandwagon because of RA, but I actually do like the show premise
Criminal Minds SB -- Not completely unknown but not well loved either. It had it's problems but I thought it had a lot of potential and ended up liking where it was going
Ultraviolet (UK TV series) -- I enjoyed the characters and the take on vampires.
V (original TV movie) -- Man, does this take me back. My dad would always have me hide in a corner during the birth scene, lol! But, I still love this movie. Never saw the reboot or the mini-series though.

AYRT

I remember Ultraviolet! Found it on Hulu once upon a time, I think. I agree, their take on vampires was pretty interesting. And the resurrected girl with the broken back was one of the most awesomely creepy things I've seen in a good while.

I guess I'll drop a rec for Rainbow, the most optimistic prison show ever. (Which means it's still pretty dang depressing.) Special mention goes to the art style, which perfectly straddles the border between realistic and stylized. (There's this really scrawny kid with acne and gigantic bald spots, and you can tell he's ugly in-universe, but he's still completely huggable thanks to how he's drawn.)

The WB cartoon "Detention." It only lasted one season and was considered a bad ripoff of "Recess," but Shareena was one of the most interesting main characters I've seen in a schoolkid ensemble show. And the theme song was the best.

Moonlight - another vampire show. I really enjoyed it.

Both Dune miniserieses. People talked about Children of Dune for a while, but not anymore. And no one talked about the first one. And also the books. Love the books.

I love the Dune miniseries. It's where I first saw James McAvoy in Children of Dune.

I ended finding them on super cheap sale at Best Buy and snapped them up.

The books are fabulous. I like Frank Herbert and lovedh is other book The White Plague.

I have recently rediscovered my love for The Golden Girls and Roseanne. I made an off hand comment about the Roseanne series before Christmas and wound up getting the boxset of the entire series for Christmas and I've been working my way through it.

Wish Me Luck. Holy crap, I wish I weren't the only person on the internet who loves this series. British women go undercover in occupied France during WWII; also some plots follow their handlers on the home front. There is some overlap in characters, but each season (there are 3) follows a new mission in a new location. Naturally, there are a bunch of really awesome female characters (and men too). My favorite season is the first, as I find it the most suspenseful; while S2 is more action-y (the mission is sabotage), and S3 is focused on the liberation of a certain city towards the end of the war.

Also kind of ship Liz and Mattie in S1... So many femslashy opportunities and potential pairings though!

Of the top of my head? Well some might be more famous than I know of, but I don't see much talk about them:

Three Rivers: It has Steve from H50 as a transplant surgeon, and it was awesome!
The Forgotten: Awesome stories, cool characters and they tried to find the identities of people who had been killed or found dead so they could be buried with a name.
The Unusuals: Hate to say it but, a better Brooklyn 99
Selfie: Didn't think I would love that show as much as I did, but everyone should have watched it so it didn't get canceled. And I loved the fact that even if the girl was internet famous and very self involved she grew.
The Pretender: Bones (I think?) spinoff, it was so much fun and it had awesome female characters.
Breakout Kings: Loved every single character, I loved how the characters used their skills to catch prisoners who had escaped prison, it was interesting learning about how different people end up in prison.
Endgame: Russian chess genius who can't go outside solves crime. What more do you want?
Death in Paradise: Very English detective who hates the sun, beach and relaxing ends up working on a tropical island and solves crime.
Emily Owens M.D: Medical show, awesome cast.

What I learnt from this is that I watch a lot of medical and crime shows... Also I am not great at describing shows.

I love Brooklyn 99 too, it is one of my favourite shows to watch that is airing right now, but The Unusuals was perfect and I hate that it didn't get a longer run.

I am also annoyed that I managed to put the comma on the wrong side of the but... In my original comment.

Only because I saw someone mention an apparently different show of the same name:

The Pretender: A cat-and-mouse story between Jarod, a genius who, with a little bit of study can become anything, and the Centre, an organization that stole him from his family as a child. I don't see Michael T. Weiss (Jarod) in a lot of things anymore, but to this day, Broots is still the first role I think of when I see Jon Gries. Well, that and Lazlo Holyfield (Real Genius, a movie starring baby Val Kilmer).

Sadly, by the time it was abruptly canceled in season four and finished up with a few TV movies, it had gone entirely batshit crazy.
