(Anonymous) 2015-03-02 05:43 am (UTC)(link)Reaching the sex scene slows me down considerably, because by now I've written so much of it that I worry it's becoming repetitive. There's only so many ways the same two characters can fuck without veering into OOC territory, and having probably hit the three-figure mark of smutty scenes for this particular pairing by now I'm certain I've got a few pet phrases or actions that crop up a lot without me noticing.
I also use sex scenes to explore character a lot. Most of my main ships have that perceived image vs inner self dichotomy going on, and sex is often a great way to explore that.
