Each person's learning curve is different, but if you are motivated and intrigued by what you see then you should definitely pick it up! If you like dinosaurs play a game with nothing but dinosaurs in it! That's the only way to learn what you like and don't like in games. Try everything and everything. If you're on a budget, try Steam or buy games used for cheap.
