(Anonymous) 2015-03-03 12:47 am (UTC)(link)I tutor kids in English, it's not our native language. One of the things I always tell them is to read (in this case in English). It doesn't have to be serious literature, it can be something YA or something non-fiction about an interest you have. Read the sports section, I don't care. Since it's a foreign language they're not good at I only wanted them to do a page per week or so, more if they wanted.
But recently this one kid tells me 'he doesn't really read'. Nothing? Ever? At all? I tried to lure him out, by asking him if he had any interests or hobbies. 'No'. He's maybe 15 or 16 and he has no interests? What? I have to admit I couldn't keep a straight face at that one.
